We actively seek to recruit Reservists, and we provide at least 10 days of additional training, fully paid, to any Reservist employed by Pury Erskine Ltd. We also provide additional leave, fully paid for employees who are Cadet Force Adult Volunteers (CFAVs).

We provide our reservists with 10 days paid leave for mobilisation, split into 5 days before mobilisation and 5 days after mobilisation.

We provide our Cadet Force Adult Volunteers with 10 days paid leave.

Paralegal

Pury Erskine Ltd is a niche law firm specialising in serious and complex crime; military and regulatory law. Our exclusively private criminal defence division provides expert legal advice both pre-charge and during criminal proceedings. We seek a committed paralegal to join our small team to assist fee earners with a variety of work. This role offers an excellent opportunity for professional growth and exposure to complex legal matters, including international casework.

Role/responsibilities

  • Engaging with the Police as part of Pre-Charge Engagement;
  • Liaising with clients via email and telephone (including those based outside of the UK);
  • Drafting legal applications and documents;
  • Attending court to support counsel;
  • Reviewing and analysing documents;
  • Conferencing with clients to take instructions;
  • Instructing experts;
  • Communicating with the CPS;
  • Assisting fee earners;
  • Recording information accurately.

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Strong organisational and multitasking skills;
  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities;
  • Language skills, especially Spanish, are highly desirable;
  • Ability to deal with privately paying clients;
  • Able to work under pressure with minimal supervision;
  • Computer literate;
  • Self-motivated (This is a remote working position, but London-based court attendance will occasionally be required).

Qualifications & Experience

  • Law degree or equivalent (essential)
  • LPC/BPC
  • Previous experience working within a legal environment (preferred).


This is a full time position for a fixed term of 6 months. The successful candidate’s performance will be reviewed at this point with a view to extending the contract or offering a training contract.
