Pury Erskine Ltd successfully defend 18 year old Treyvon Ejiogu from East London accused of murder in Swindon in October 2021 when he was aged just 17. Ian Graham instructed Peter Glenser KC and Matthew Bolt of Cornwall Street Barristers.
Treyvon had travelled to Swindon as part of a county lines operation with two friends to deal Class A drugs. Whilst in Swindon they learned that someone was intending to rob them, leading the defendant to arm himself with a kitchen knife. The next morning he and his two friends were confronted by Lee Turner who had recently described himself to a probation officer as ‘a professional robber of drug dealers’ and who was armed with at least one pair of matched knives and possibly a Stanley knife. Treyvon was confronted by Turner and stabbed him once fatally in the chest. He has always maintained his innocence, and that he was acting in lawful self defence. Extraordinarily, the confrontation was accidentally recorded on Turner’s mobile telephone.
Treyvon had previously pleaded guilty to possession of a bladed article and being concerned in the supply of heroin and cocaine. His Honour Judge Hart was persuaded to impose a suspended sentence in relation to these matters. Peter and Matthew were assisted throughout by Kiera Vinall, now a pupil at Cornwall Street Barristers.
